All opposition parties to help pass the Triple Talaq Bill: Ananth Kumar

Bharti Janata Party Minister Ananth Kumar on Wednesday asked all opponent political parties come and give support in passing the Triple Talaq Bill.

"I request to all the opposition parties to support in passing the bill on Triple Talaq in the Parliament unanimously," Kumar told reporters after arriving in Parliament here.

His remarks came amid continued logjam over Congress' demands for an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his remarks against his precursor Manmohan Singh during the Gujarat assembly election campaign.

The Parliament restarted on Wednesday after the four days holidays break a weekend and two-day holiday because of Christmas.The government is trying to bring a bill to treat instant triple talaq, which has been listed for introduction on Thursday.

Triple Talaq, also called talaq-e-biddat, fast divorce and talaq-e-mughallazah (sealed divorcement),is a form of Islamic divorcement which has been used by Muslims in India, particularly adhesive of Hanafi Sunni Islamic schools of jurisprudence.It allows any Muslim man to legally divorce his wife by stating the word talaq (the Arabic word for "divorce") three times in oral, written, or more recently electronic form.The use and status of triple talaq in India has been a subject of controversy and debate.
