Amarnath Yatra: First Batch of pilgrims leave from Amarnath

Srinagar: Amarnath Yatra 2019 has started from Sunday. The first batch of Amarnath Yatris has left jammu base camp early this morning. Amidst the slogans of Jai Bam Bhole, devotees rushed to see Lord Shiva. K. K. Sharma, the adviser to Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik, flagged off the team.

Officials said, so far about 1.5 lakh devotees from across the country have registered for the 46-day Yatra. The yatra passes through the 36 km traditional Pahalgam route of Anantnag district and the 14 km Balatal route of Ganderbal district. The first batch includes other devotees, including sadhus. Divisional Commissioner of Jammu Sanjeev Verma said that all necessary arrangements have been made including security to facilitate the pilgrims and ensure their safety during the Yatra. The tour will conclude on August 15.

Sinha said proper security arrangements have been made on the Yatra route from Lakhanpur (gateway to Jammu and Kashmir) to base camps, shelter centers, stoppages, and community kitchens.  He said that there is no intelligence on any plan of terrorists to block the visit, but strict security arrangements have been made to thwart any attempt by anti-national elements in view of the current security scenario in the state.
