Amazon to Invest Rs 20,761 Crore in Data centres in Telangana

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced that it is setting up multiple data centres in Telangana State with an estimated investment of Rs 20,761 crores. Announcing the news on Twitter, Telangana's Minister for Information Technology and Industries - KT Rama Rao tweeted "Happy to announce the largest Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the history of Telangana! After a series of meetings, AWS has finalized investment of Rs 207.61 billion to set up multiple data centres in Telangana.

The official release from KT Rama Rao, the son of Chief Minister - K Chandrasekhar Rao stated that the AWS would set up an AWS Region with three Availability Zones (AZ) in Hyderabad. It further added that the AWS Asia-Pacific region in Hyderabad is expected to start the operations by the middle of 2022.

The official release stated that "Establishment of data centres like AWS is expected to support Telangana's digital economy and information technology (IT) sector in a multifold way". "The AWS has chosen Hyderabad because of the support provided by the government of Telangana, robust policy framework, and because it best met the rigorous requirements for an AWS Region,” This investment is expected to further strengthen the existing relationship that Telangana enjoys with Amazon, which has the largest office campus in Hyderabad.
