Moscow: The latest in a series of drone attacks on the Russian capital, Russian air defences on Friday shot down a Ukrainian drone as it headed towards an unidentified target in Moscow, according to the defence ministry.

A suspected drone flight earlier forced the temporary closure of Kaluga Airport, located about 150 km (95 miles) southwest of the capital, and Moscow's Vnukovo Airport. Later, they reopened.

.".. an attempt by the Kyiv regime to carry out a terrorist attack by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) on a facility in Moscow was thwarted," the ministry said in a statement, adding that the drone was jammed and crashed in a forest west of Moscow.
Both casualties and damage have not occurred, it declared.

Prior to this, Vnukovo Airport stated that it was forced to halt all operations "for reasons beyond the control of the airport," adding that some flights had been diverted to other airports in the Moscow vicinity. It didn't provide any more details.

Later, both the Vnukovo and Kaluga airports resumed operations. Since a drone was shot down over the Kremlin in early May, drone air strikes have increased in Russia's interior. Later in May, the city's civilian areas were attacked, and earlier this month, a business district in Moscow was targeted twice in the space of three days.

At the Russian port of Novorossiysk on the Black Sea, Ukrainian remotely piloted boats, also known as drones, recently attacked a Russian fuel tanker and a navy base. Although officials have publicly expressed their satisfaction over attacks on Russian territory, Ukraine typically doesn't comment on who is responsible.
