New Delhi: Amid the ongoing violent protests against the Agneepath scheme, the government is going ahead with its move. Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held a meeting with three Army Chiefs on Saturday in this regard. Rajnath Singh's meeting with army chiefs is also significant as violent protests are currently taking place in many parts of the country against the Agneepath scheme. The fire against the Agneepath scheme has started burning 13 states. In the last three days, there have been violent protests by youth in many parts of the country, with bird parties requesting the government to withdraw the scheme. All India Students' Associated has announced a 24-hour Bihar bandh on Saturday. Bihar has been the centre of protest against the Agneepath scheme at present.

A crucial meeting between the Defence Minister and the service chiefs took place soon after the Union Home Ministry on Saturday announced 10 per cent reservation for Agniveers in the recruitment of CAPF and Assam Rifles. The three Army Chiefs have expressed confidence about the scheme through which the youth will be recruited in the Army, Navy and Air Force for a period of four years. At the end of four years, 25% of them will be retained while the rest will be given help for their future.

Air Force Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhary on Saturday said youths opposing Agneepath should get the right information and fully understand the plan. Army Chief General Manoj Pandey said the scheme will provide a chance to the youth and they have not been properly informed due to the ongoing resistance. Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar said that protests were not expected and the Agneepath scheme is the biggest human resource management change in the Indian Army.
