Gujarat: On Saturday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah wished the Patidar community well as he laid the foundation stone for the Umiya Mata Temple at Umiya Campus in Sola, Ahmedabad. While speaking to a crowd in Ahmedabad, Shah, who is on a one-day visit, said, "I am grateful to the Umiya Mata organisation for allowing me to take part in this sacred task. I was given the honour of laying the Dham's foundation stone."

Shah said, the Patidar community has contributed to the state's development. "In many fields, Patidar societies have made major contributions," he said. The Umiya Mata temple in Unjha is a holy site that serves as a centre of pilgrimage and faith for the Patidar community, particularly the Kadva Patidars. The temple, devoted to Maa Umiya, the Kadva Patidar sect's reigning deity, will cost Rs 1,500 crore to build.

Governor Acharya Devvrat, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, and other Patidar Samaj leaders were also in attendance at the Umiya Campus ceremony. Shah will dedicate a four-lane railway overbridge and a water distribution facility built by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation in Sola later this evening. Later in the day, Shah would virtually break ground for a garden in the Ranip area, as well as lake beautification projects in Sarkhej and Gota.
