Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Guwahati late on Friday night on a 2-day visit to the North East. The state's CM Sarbanand Sonowal himself was present at the airport to welcome Amit Shah. Today, Shah will lay the foundation stone for several government programmes in Guwahati. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will also distribute financial assistance among 8000 Namghar Vaishnava saints of Assam.

Shah may have arrived in Guwahati late in the night, but even at that time, the state government had arranged folk artists to welcome him. He was greeted by artists and local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers at the popular Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport in Guwahati. Assam Finance Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma was also present. Himanta Vishwa Sharma is also the convener of the North East NDA.

Himanta Vishwa Sharma informed that Amit Shah will launch the beautification programme of the birthplace of mahaman Srimanta Shankardev today. He will also lay the foundation stone of the medical college in Guwahati. Shah will also meet nda regional parties in Assam. The Home Minister will hold talks with leaders of Asom Gana Parishad, United People's Party Liberal and Ganashakti.
