CHANDIGARH: Papalpreet Singh, Amritpal Singh's main aide and a pro-Khalistani sympathiser, was apprehended in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, on Sunday. The operation  was reportedly carried out by the counter-intelligence division of the Punjab Police.
On March 18, Amritpal Singh evaded capture by authorities in the Jalandhar district by switching vehicles and posing as someone else. The Waris Punjab De head had been seen travelling with the now-arrested assistant, as per visuals shared in the ensuing days indicated.

CCTV footage showed that on March 19, a woman in Shahabad, Kurukshetra district, had been hosting the pair at her home. They were reportedly seen on March 23 in the Lakhipur Kheri region of Uttar Pradesh, according to earlier reports. CCTV footage supposedly from Patiala also purportedly captured Singh and his important associate Papalpreet Singh conversing on a phone while strolling around the streets.

Singh and his colleagues have been charged with a number of crimes, including inciting class strife, attempting to kill people, attacking police officers, and obstructing the legitimate performance of official duties.

Amritpal Singh, the head of "Waris Punjab De" and a pro-Khalistan activist, appeared in a new video on March 30 and declared that he was not "a fugitive" and that he would soon "emerge in front of the world." Amritpal Singh also attempted to respond to some remarks on prior images of him in the unconfirmed video.
