Kurnool: A new university in Andhra Pradesh has been named accidentally for a Pakistani scholar. In June, a new Urdu university is meant to start classes on a sprawling 125 acres in the Kurnool district. CM Chandrababu Naidu did the honors in November to formally mark the beginning of construction at the location.
The university was to be named after Dr Abdul Haq, a famous educationist who founded the highly-reputed Osmania College in Kurnool and is credited with establishing several educational institutions in the region that has since been carved into Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Meanwhile, in what shows to be a clerical mistake,On Wednesday,  the Andhra Pradesh assembly cleared a proposal naming the university after Moulvi Abdul Haq, a prominent Urdu scholar who moved to Pakistan during partition.

The proposal was hiked in the assembly, neither lawmakers nor bureaucrats realized the gaffe and voted in its favor.

An amendment will now have to be passed to rename the University. An inquiry has been ordered to determine who is at fault.
