In a recent legal move, Angelina Jolie has accused Brad Pitt of past physical abuse. This comes in the midst of a dispute over their French winery, Miraval. According to documents obtained by CNN, Jolie sought to sell her share in the winery, but negotiations soured when Pitt insisted on a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) preventing Jolie from discussing his alleged abuse of her and their children.

The current situation traces back to Pitt's 2022 lawsuit, where he argued that neither party could sell their stake in Miraval without the other's consent. Jolie's filing contends that Pitt's history of abuse predates a notorious 2016 plane incident involving the family, although specifics are not provided.

The filing asserts that at the trial, Jolie will present evidence—including testimonies, emails, and photographs—supporting Pitt's fear of exposure leading to the collapse of the deal. Jolie maintains that she agreed to a limited NDA initially, focused on not disparaging Miraval's wine business. However, Pitt later pushed for a broader NDA preventing Jolie from making any negative remarks about him in public, outside of court.

Paul Murphy, Jolie's attorney, emphasized Pitt's refusal to purchase her stake without the broader NDA. Murphy suggests Pitt's lawsuit brings into question why he was insistent on the NDA, hinting at hiding his alleged abuse.

Despite the seriousness of the allegations, Jolie chose not to pursue legal action against Pitt after the 2016 incident, hoping for his acknowledgment of responsibility and support for the family's recovery from the trauma. However, ongoing legal battles and Pitt's efforts to control and punish her continue to impact Jolie and their family emotionally and financially.
