New Delhi: Dairy firm Parag Milk Foods Limited on Tuesday said that it has increased the price of Govardhan brand cow's milk by Rs 2 per liter from March 1. Earlier, the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets milk and milk products under the Amul brand, had said on Monday that milk prices would be increased by Rs 2 per liter from Tuesday. Parag Milk said in a statement that with the increase in prices, the price of Govardhan Gold milk will now increase from Rs 48 per liter to Rs 50. The price of Govardhan Fresh, which is toned milk, will now increase from Rs 46 per liter to Rs 48.

This is the second time in the current financial year that milk prices have been increased. Earlier in June 2021, milk prices were increased by Rs 2 per liter. Devendra Shah, President, Parag Milk Foods said that the prices have been increased due to the increase in the cost of electricity, packaging, logistics and animal feed. Along with this, experts say that apart from Parag Milk Foods, many other companies of the country can also increase the prices. Mother Dairy can also announce a price increase soon.

Dairy sector is the single largest agricultural commodity with 4 per cent share in the economy. India is the largest producer of milk globally with a production of around 188 million metric tonnes in 2019-20. Indian milk production is expected to increase to 270 million metric tonnes by 2025. India was 54,762.31 metric tonnes in terms of export of dairy products for the year 2020-21. 1,491.66 crores means a turnover of 201.37 million dollars according to the rupee.
