Srinagar: A terrorist has been killed in an encounter with security forces in the Kulgam district of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Two civilians and a jawan were injured during the anti-militancy operation. The slain terrorist was a member of the banned terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed. Police sources said that joint teams of security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Batpora area of Kulgam following information about the presence of militants there. During this time, he had an encounter with the terrorists.

As soon as the joint teams of security forces moved towards the suspected place, the hiding militants opened fire on them, the police official said. In response, security forces personnel also opened fire. One terrorist was killed in the encounter. The deceased could not be identified. The search operation is still going on in the area.

Earlier on Monday evening, in a tweet, the police said that a jawan and two civilians were injured in the ongoing encounter. The three injured were taken to a hospital for treatment, the police tweet said. Nine militants have been killed in various encounters in Kashmir this month.
