Amaravati: The state government has ordered district authorities to go door to door and distribute subsidised goods for the 'door to door ration distribution' scheme for the welfare of the poor. The government has decided to increase the amount paid to the motorists from Rs. 16,000 to Rs. 21,000 per month. The scheme is currently being implemented in towns. However, the Civil Supplies Department was alerted when complaints from beneficiaries were being issued by some of the towns that they were distributing goods at one place.

The Ex-Officio Secretary of the Civil Supplies Department Kona Shashidhar directed the district level officials to take immediate steps to correct the shortcomings and increase the speed of distribution of goods. The staff working in the field should be aware of the motorists to correct the shortcomings immediately. There are 29,783 ration shops in the state Of these, 7,426 shops in urban areas are currently under going to door-to-door ration distribution. Till Wednesday evening, 13.08 lakh families were distributed 2.14 crore kg of quality rice, 12.09 lakh kg of sugar and 7.09 lakh kg of pulses.

The arguments on the state government's case challenging the election commissioner's order breaking the implementation of the 'door-to-door ration' scheme have been concluded. Justice DVSS Somayajulu heard the arguments and postponed his verdict. Earlier, the Election Commission's lawyer N. Ashwani Kumar argued that the ration scheme was not blocked in the urban area.

The Election Commission has told the government to examine the colours of mobile vehicles used for the distribution of essential supplies under the scheme and to examine them and put neutral colors. Advocate General (AG) Sriram responded on behalf of the government The constitutional responsibility of the government to provide essential commodities to the poor is not right for the Commission to prevent it. The single judge said very clearly that it was important to provide essentials to the poor.
