Arif was introduced to skiing at the young age of 4. Arif, who lived in the middle of the hills, loved cricket, football, but to play these games, a field was needed. Arif's father was also selling skiing equipment, so Arif also thought of skiing. To fulfill his son's dream, the father prepared a small slope outside his shop.

After which Arif slowly started learning the tricks of skiing and at the age of 10 has started participating in competitions related to this sport. In the year 2002, at the age of 12, Arif has also won the gold medal of skiing in the national level competition. At the age of 16, Arif participated in the Junior International Skiing Federation event held in Japan. Arif Khan has started doing his best. Arif has started making a lot of headlines with his performance in the South Asian Winter Games held in Uttarakhand in the year 2011. Between that Asian Games, Arif has also won two gold medals in slalom and giant slalom events.

Arif secured his quota in the giant slalom through an event held in Montenegro in December last year, a month after he secured his quota in the alpine skiing slalom category at the Olympic qualifiers in Dubai. With this, 31-year-old Arif became the first Indian to get straight quota places in two events of the Winter Olympics.
