NEW DELHI: India's star badminton player H.S. Prannoy had targeted the selectors for not getting the Arjuna Award. He had said that the awards require identification from people who can get more attention from the field performance. The BAI has now responded to his allegation. BAI sources said that Prannoy's name was not recommended for the Arjuna award as he had not performed well in the past year.

"The BAI had recommended Sai Praneeth and Manu Atri for the Arjuna Award. Pranay had also sent his application. But this was not considered because of the lack of strong performance in the past year. Like Pranay, B Sai Praneeth, who represents the country, has been selected for the Arjuna Awards. Apart from them, the Badminton Association of India had recommended the name of double expert Manu Atri, who was not given the name by the 12-member selection committee.

"If you want your name to be on the prize list, make sure you have people with you who can put your name on the list," Prannoy tweeted. In our country, the performance gets the least attention. It is sad for the country, but you cannot do anything. Play except it all as long as you can play. A list of 19 sportspersons who were selected for the Arjuna Award was released yesterday.
