Union Minister Arjun Munda was elected the president of the Archery Association of India (AAI) suspended in an election conducted on Saturday under the supervision of three observers. With the support of former AAI president Vijay Kumar Malhotra, Munda, the president of Jharkhand Archery Association, defeated Assam Archery Association president and retired IAS officer BVP Rao by a margin of 34-18. The entire Munda panel won, whose term would be four years.

According to media reports, Pramod Chandurkar of Maharashtra defeated the Mahasim of Chandigarh 31-21 in the election for the post of Secretary, while in the election of Senior Vice President, former Haryana Minister Captain Abhimanyu defeated GA Ibopishak of Manipur by 32-20. In the election of treasurer, Rajendra Singh Tomar of Uttarakhand defeated Sankhya Nanda Das of Odisha 34-18.

For your information, let us tell you that a total of 31 states are part of the Union AAI, but only 26 states got the opportunity to participate in voting where each state had two votes each. Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir are not included in the electoral college. In this way, a total of 52 votes elected the 19-member executive committee, including the chairman, general secretary, senior vice-president, eight vice-presidents, seven joint secretaries and a treasurer. Munda has been the Chief Minister of Jharkhand thrice and is a very popular tribal leader. He also runs an archery academy which has played an important role in improving the game of former number one Deepika Kumari.
