An army soldier on Sunday committed suicide by shooting from his service rifle in Bandipora district of North Kashmir. According to sources, the soldier, who was originally resident of Morena in Madhya Pradesh, shot himself.

At the time of the incident, he was on duty at 14 RR camps in Bandipora. On hearing the sound of firing, fellow jawans rushed towards them. The soldiers who reached the spot found him soaked in blood. After this, he was taken to the army hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Confirming the said incident, a police officer has said that a case has been registered in this regard and further investigation is being done. The officer said that it is being ascertained why the jawan took such a step.
