August 4, 1961 Barack Hussein Obama was the 44th President of the United States. He is America's first black (African-American) president. Obama was sworn in as president on January 20, 2009. Obama was a junior senator from the province of Illinois and a Democratic party candidate for the presidency of the United States in 2008.
