Pandit Shri Ram Sharma Acharya was born on 20 September 1911 (Ashwin Krishna Trayodashi Vikram Samvat 1967) in the village of Aankalkheda under Agra district of UP. His childhood was spent in the village. Pandit Shri Ram Sharma Acharya's father, Shri Pt. Rupkishore Sharma ji belonged to the Zamindar Gharana and was a Rajpurohit. His inclination towards cultivation began to show in his childhood, when he used to teach his classmates, young children in the school of a mango orchard, along with schooling as well as self-cultivation.

He once escaped towards the Himalayas and later on, being caught, he said that the Himalayas were his home and he was going there. Mahamana Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviya ji initiated the Gayatri Mantra to Acharya Shriram in Kashi. At the age of fifteen, in Vasant Panchami's Vela, it was only in 1926 that people recognized his inner avatar. Acharya had no distinction of caste and creed. He also served leprosy patients. This great saint started a weaving house in the village for women power and unemployed youth and taught them to stand on their feet.

It was this great saint who carried forward the mission of building an era through the Gayatri family, Pragya Abhiyan. He used to say that to get involved in the austerity of making himself more pure and vigorous - to learn self-discipline by subsisting on barley bread and buttermilk. From this, that strength will develop which will be employed for purely charitable purposes.
