NEW DELHI: With the judgment set to be pronounced very soon in the rape case against self-styled godman Asaram, here's the top 5 things you need to know about the case.

1. Asaram was detained in 2013 after a 16-year-old girl from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh due to allegations of sexual assault by him in his ashram on the outer edge of Jodhpur.

2. Asaram was arrested from Indore and brought to Jodhpur central jail on September 1, 2013. He has been under judicial custody since.

3. More than 30 well-known lawyers lobbied for Asaram, but no one could give bail. These advocates include Ram Jethmalani, Salman Khursheed, Mukul Rohatgi, Soli Sorabjee and KTS Tulsi.

4. The 77-year old 'godman' disastrously moved 12 bail applications, of which 6 were discarded by trial court, 3 by the Rajasthan High Court and 3 by the Supreme Court. 1660 days till now Asaram has spent in jail while Case trial carried out till 1470 days.

5. Judge Madhusudan Sharma will pronounce verdict has been provided with Z+ security in view of his safety while 4 states Gujarat, Haryana, Uttar Pradeshand Rajasthan are on high alert.
