In the first match of Asia Cup 2022, after Mohammad Nabi put Sri Lanka in to bat, Fazalhaq Farooqi and Naveen-ul-Haq utilised the new ball to its fullest potential. In the second over alone, they were down to 5 for 3. Before Sri Lanka again fell apart, Afghanistan only allowed a brief show of resistance.

The task was then finished by Afghanistan's destructive opening duo, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Hazratullah Zazai. Between them, they hit 13 boundaries, including four sixes in Gurbaz's 18-ball 40. Despite losing a few wickets, Afghanistan showed off their offensive prowess.
