GUWAHATI: The Assam government today, March 17, presented a deficit budget of Rs 935 crore for the fiscal year 2023–2024 with the intention of expanding the state's youth population's options for self-employment.

In this year's budget, Assam's finance minister, Ajanta Neog, pledged to provide financial assistance to 2 lakh young people without jobs. Neog claims that the current budget has allocated Rs 5000 crore to assist 2 lakh unemployed youths in starting enterprises and creating jobs.

The fiscal year 2023–24 will have a surplus of about Rs 661 crore, she said while presenting the budget. "The overall revenue for 2022–23 was predicted at Rs 321,742 crore, while the total expenses came in at Rs 321,081 crore," she said.

Ajanta Neog proposed exempting renewable energy producers from electricity taxes and prolonging the tax holiday for agricultural income taxes for an additional three years despite the fact that she claimed there would be no new taxes included in the budget. The minister also reaffirmed the BJP's election pledge to provide jobs for 1 lakh young people in Assam.

"42,000 people have already found work. Another 40,000 adolescents will have employment by May 10, when the state government completes its second year "The financial minister brought up. Neog added that there are already plans in place to hire 18,000 more individuals.

"Our government already given employment to nearly 42,000 youths across various departments . The remaining 18,000 are at various stages of recruitment, and this will also be fulfilled very soon. To promote micro-entrepreneurs, the government will spend Rs 5,000 crore over the next 3 years to "transform" over 2 lakh youths into job creators. A total of Rs 1,000 crore was allocated for the fiscal 2024, the budget proposals stated.
