GUWAHATI: Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam,  inaugurated an Adarsha Vidyalaya at Rangmahal on the North Bank of the Brahmaputra. He also inaugurated Rangmahal Higher Secondary School built in the same building on the same campus.

The state is witnessing the dedication of 18 Adarsha Vidyalayas under CBSE, which will be providing instruction in the English language, and 19 Vidyalaya in tea garden areas, which will be providing instruction in the Assamese language, according to Chief Minister Sarma. He said that the opening of two schools in Rangmahal, one for SEBA and the other for CBSE, will promote healthy competition on the campus.

On the occasion, he also offered heartfelt thanks to individuals who were instrumental in helping to create Rangmahal Higher Secondary School, which has been developing local human resources for a while.
The government is establishing CBSE schools in the state which will enable students from economically disadvantaged sections to study English at public schools, he said.

He said that 55 schools have been built and that the administration is planning to establish Adarsha Vidyalaya in 126 Assembly Constituencies. The work on the remaining 71 is proceeding apace. He said that these Adarsha Vidyalayas would have modern classrooms complete with science labs, computer labs, libraries, and other amenities.  These schools will also be equipped with "Project Child," which will promote chidrens' mental as well as physical growth.

The Chief Minister declared that efforts had been made by the government to establish a second Adarsha Vidyalaya in Changsari. Furthermore, with a financial investment of Rs. 10 crores for each school, the State government would take action to renovate 2000 vernacular-medium schools throughout the state.

Sarma added that a number of development initiatives have given North Guwahati's growth a new perspective. He asserted that North Guwahati will gain relevance once the Brahmaputra bridge connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati, now under construction, is operational.

On this occasion, Chief Minister Sarma also gave away free textbooks to Adarsha Vidyalaya kids. Chandra Mohan Patowary, MP for Queen Oja, and Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta, the government of Assam's advisor on education, were all present.
