Guwahati: The Assam government has lifted the weekend lockdown and night curfew. However, corona-related restrictions are in force until September 30 in the containment areas. This was stated by Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna on Friday. Earlier in the day, an order was also issued in this regard, which lists various activities that have been started aside from the containment areas. The order states that the operation of public trains has been flagged off from September 7.

In a tweet, the Chief Secretary said, "The weekend lockdown and the curfew for the night are being lifted. However, please follow the Corona guidelines to keep yourself and others close to you safe. A weekend lockdown and night curfew was imposed across the state from June to prevent the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic.

After 3,054 new corona cases were reported in Assam, the infection cases in the state rose to 1,18,333 on Friday. After the death of 7 more people, the death toll rose to 330. A day earlier on Thursday, a bench of the Guwahati High Court had heard a PIL directing all the district police chiefs, junior officers and police station officers to be active on the roads. The directive was issued in view of the increase in corona cases.
