Assam: Kiran Saikia Bora conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award

Kiran Saikia Bora, a Darrang-based author and literary activist, has been honoured by Asom Lekhika Sanstha, Assam's foremost literary body for women writers, with the 'Lifetime achievement award.'

Bora, a retired teacher who has won state awards, resides at Jyotinagar in Darrang's Mangaldai. The prise was handed in a formal ceremony at Tirtha Nath Sarma Bhawan, Chandmari in Guwahati, during the Asom Lekhika Sanstha's biennial conference.

'Xadhu Kathar Amrit Gatha,' 'Jitu Grihe Madhabar Bhakati Xadhoi,' and 'Kabitare Bigyan' are among Kiran Saikia Bora's five books. She was also the president of the Mangaldai branch of the literary organisation from 1999 to 2020. She retired as the headmistress of Mangaldai Town Boys' LP School, and her service was recognised in 1997 with a state teacher award.

Saikia Bora described the prise as a great motivation for her peaceful creative journey aimed at the general public, particularly young kids, in an interview with Northeast Now.Apart from Saikia Bora, the prise was given to six other famous women authors from the state, including Dr Suchitra Kakati, Dr Anjali Sarma, Diptimoyee Burhagohain Gogoi, Syeda Nurzahan, Toseswari Phukan Neog, and Renu Dutta Baruah.

Manjula Sarma Bhattacharjee, the departing president of the literary organisation, presided over the event.
