Assam Police Appoints Olympic Medalist Lovlina Borgohain as DSP

Lovlina Borgohain, a bronze medallist in the Tokyo Olympics, was appointed DSP of Assam Police on Wednesday. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, said on Tuesday that he will give her the appointment letter to her at Janata Bhawan. He also stated that the selection was made in accordance with our government's new sports policy.

Meanwhile, the Assam Police Department welcomed her on Twitter, saying, "Welcome Aboard!" Congratulations to @LovlinaBorgohai on her appointment as a Dy.SP in the Assam Police Department. Your participation will ’s essential us in our effort to promote friendly policing throughout the state."

 

Lovlina Borgohain, a 23-year-old boxer who rose to fame after winning a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics, was greeted with a rousing welcome at Gauhati Airport. However, the tough boxer in the ring appeared dejected as she expressed her displeasure at not winning a gold medal. Borgohain, who won a bronze medal in the women's 69kg welterweight category at the Tokyo Olympics, arrived in Guwahati, where she was met by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at the LGBI airport.

"I welcomed our great Olympian medalist Lovlina Borgohai at Guwahati airport with joy and honour. With her triumph at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, Lovlina has sparked a billion hopes and set an example for aspiring sports stars in rural regions to strive to big things on the international arena "While congratulating the Olympic medalist, the Assam Chief Minister tweeted. At the airport, CM Sarma was joined by Assam Sports Minister Bimal Bora and Guwahati Police Commissioner Harmeet Singh.

She had expressed her unhappiness during a news conference at the airport, when she stated that she would be completely pleased only if she won Olympic gold.
