Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh's mafia don Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were publicly murdered yesterday, April 15, 2023. Ateeq, who created terror in the minds of people for decades, was killed by the assailants in front of both the police and the media. Ateeq was shot directly in the head, after which Ateeq immediately collapsed on the ground.
Atiq had spread his terror in UP for 44 years. At the age of 17, he had already been accused of murder. Aside from this, extortion was a common thing for him. Despite his dangerous history, he got a lot of political protection under the previous governments. The result of this protection was that 10 judges withdrew from hearing charges against him, and the 11th judge who came granted bail to Atiq. Today, in the government of Akhilesh Yadav, who is giving religious colour to Asad's encounter, Atiq's tuti used to speak. Not only this, even in the Mulayam government, the police were ordered not to lay hands on Atiq; former UP DGP OP Singh himself has accepted this. The result of this protection was that Atiq Ahmed did not hesitate to attack BSP supremo Mayawati in the 1995 guest house incident. Mayawati has taken the name Mafia Atiq in this matter many times from forums. Mayawati told him that Atiq had conspired to kill her.
It is said that if Mayawati had not been accompanied by two junior police officers that day, the crowd that entered the guest house could have done anything. Mayawati was sworn in as the Chief Minister of the state the next day after the incident. Before the murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal in 2005, Atiq's name came up in Lucknow's famous guest house scandal. For which even after becoming the Chief Minister, Mayawati did not forgive him for a long time. Whenever Mayawati's government came, they took action against Atiq. Tightening the noose against the mafia, action on its properties had already started during the BSP regime. But his fear was still alive among the people, and Yogi Adityanath's government worked to remove it.
With the change of time, Mayawati's displeasure with Atiq also got milder. Mayawati herself came forward and gave protection to Atiq's family. On January 6, 2023, Atiq's family left Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM and joined the BSP. It is said that Atiq's family was associated with the BSP only at the behest of Mayawati. A few days later, former BSP Rajya Sabha MP Ghanshyam Chandra Kharwar made Shaista Parveen his candidate for mayor from Prayagraj. However, after Shaista's name cropped up in the Umesh Pal murder case, Mayawati changed her mind and decided not to give a ticket to anyone from her family. However, even now, Atiq's family is a member of the BSP.
