Mumbai: The tomb of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in Aurangabad has been closed for five days as a precautionary measure following a warning from Raj Thackeray's party MNS in Maharashtra. State Deputy CM Ajit Pawar has given information in this regard on Thursday. He said that according to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the decision to close it was taken when the local mosque committee tried to lock it up.

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) spokesperson Gajanan Kale had on Tuesday said there was no need for Aurangzeb's tomb, and it should be demolished so that people do not go there. A mosque committee in Aurangabad's Khuldabad area had tried to lock the tomb. The tomb is in the Khuldabad area. After this whole affair, the ASI increased the security of the tomb. Asi's Aurangabad area superintendent Milan Kumar Chaule told the media, "Earlier, the mosque committee had tried to lock the tomb, but we had opened it. However, on Wednesday, we decided to close it for the next five days.''

"We will assess the situation and then decide whether to open it or keep it closed for the next five days. AIMIM leader Hyderabad MP Akbaruddin Owaisi, who arrived at Aurangzeb's tomb earlier this month, was criticised by the ruling Shiv Sena in Maharashtra as well as MNS chief Raj Thackeray-led MNS.'' After Owaisi's tomb visit, NCP chief Sharad Pawar had raised doubts about whether he wanted to disturb the peaceful administration of Maharashtra by doing so. The BJP had demanded that a sedition case be registered against Akbaruddin Owaisi.
