Australia has started its vaccination drive against coronavirus. Prime Minister Scott Morrison has become one of the first Australians to receive the vaccine. 

Prime Minister received his first dose of the Pfizer corona vaccine alongside Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly and a small group of aged care residents and staff and frontline pandemic workers.

Morrison said, "Tomorrow our vaccination program starts, so as a curtain-raiser today we're here making some very important points; that it's safe, that it's important, and we need to start with those who are most vulnerable and are on the front line.".

Earlier on Sunday, Health Minister Greg Hunt said that the decision was made to vaccinate political leaders early in order to instill confidence in vaccines. Anthony Albanese, the leader of the Opposition Labor Party, will receive vaccines within days.
Meanwhile, according to Johns Hopkins University, the total number of global coronavirus cases has topped 111 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 2.46 million. The current global caseload and death toll stood at 111,055,945 and 2,460,216, respectively.
