Lucknow: The last fort of Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and former cabinet minister Azam Khan has also been demolished. After Rampur Lok Sabha, Rampur Sadar Assembly, now the Swar seat of Rampur has also gone out of the hands of Azam Khan. SP candidate Anuradha Chauhan got a crushing defeat from here. She was defeated by Shafiq Ahmed of BJP's ally Apna Dal (Sonelal) by 8824 votes. Abdullah Azam, son of Swar seat Azam Khan, was MLA. The seat fell vacant after Abdullah was disqualified.
Let us tell you that in the by-election for the Swar assembly seat, there was a continuous tussle between Apna Dal's Shafiq Ahmed Ansari and SP's Anuradha Chauhan. Anuradha Chauhan had got an edge for some time. Whereas, in the trends, Shafiq was leading from the start, but lost the lead in the middle and was behind for some time. After this, when he came forward, he was able to win.
Let us tell you that this time SP had given ticket to Hindu Anuradha Chauhan in place of Muslim in Swar seat. But, this bet of SP has failed. Anuradha Chauhan started her political career as village head and is a Zilla Panchayat member. Some time back she was in Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and then joined SP. Apna Dal chief Anupriya Patel had given ticket to Pasmanda Samaj's Shafiq Ahmed Ansari, who won.
