Controversy erupted over a video posted on social media by Babul Supriyo, Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, amid the lockdown and the Corona crisis. The video is allegedly of a patient lying dead in the isolation ward of a hospital in Bengal. Questioning the veracity of the video, the state government said that BJP is expert in spreading fake news. Babul Supriyo, while claiming the video to be authentic, has requested the ruling Trinamool Congress in Bengal to investigate the matter immediately.

On the other hand, State Education Minister and General Secretary of Trinamool Congress Partha Chatterjee said that the truth of the video needs to be looked into and if it is found right then the administration will take appropriate steps, although they also said, 'We must first check whether the video is true or fake, as we all know that BJP is expert in spreading fake videos.' Babul tweeted on this and said, 'Till now the state government has not claimed that the video is fake, which takes us very close to believing that it is authentic.'
