Ambala: The Deputy Commissioner has adopted a new approach to banning single-use plastic in the Ambala district of Haryana. Arrangements are being made to provide rice in lieu of single-use plastic, the scheme will be run till 20 November. In a meeting held in Ambala, Deputy Commissioner Ashok Sharma has also sought help from voluntary organizations and social organizations to completely eliminate single-use plastic from the district.

In this scheme, those who will collect single use plastic at special places in all the four tehsils of the district will give them rice equal to their weight. This scheme will not be applicable to minors below 18 years of age. Children below the age of 18 years will not be given benefits in this scheme. This is being done so that the minors are not forced into this work. This will eliminate child labor.

The Ambala administration has planned to sell cloth bags at Rs 5 per bag at some places in the district. About 4-5 lakh bags will be arranged for this. In this way, single plastic can be banned.
