Every year, India commemorates its Independence Day on the 15th of August. On this significant occasion, the Prime Minister of the nation unfurls the national tricolor at the Red Fort and delivers an address to the entire country. Witnessing the unfurling of the tricolor fills every Indian's heart with immense pride. There exist specific regulations concerning the proper treatment of the tricolor; let's explore these guidelines:

The national tricolor is raised after sunrise and shortly before sunset.

The tricolor must fly straight in the wind; it should not be displayed at an angle. In specific circumstances, it can be lowered to half-mast as directed.

Utmost respect is accorded to the tricolor. It is prohibited to submerge or place the flag on the ground. Furthermore, any form of verbal or symbolic disrespect toward the flag can lead to a penalty or imprisonment for up to three years.

Our national flag should always maintain a rectangular shape, with a length-to-width ratio of 3:2.

Valid materials for the tricolor include cotton, silk, or khadi fabric. Although paper tricolors are occasionally seen, they are not the norm.

When raising the tricolor, it is advisable to select an elevated location. Opting for a high vantage point in your vicinity is a respectful practice.

While hoisting the tricolor, it is crucial to ensure that it remains intact and clean, without any tears or dirt.

If the tricolor becomes damaged, torn, or is no longer suitable for use, it should be respectfully burned in isolation using fire. Alternatively, one can choose to perform a water samadhi ceremony by submerging the flag in a holy river. This ensures the dignity of the tricolor is preserved.

Wearing the tricolor as clothing or using it in the form of undergarments, handkerchiefs, cushions, or similar items is considered disrespectful and a punishable offense.
