Bhima Koregaon violence: Milind Ekbote sent to 14-days judicial custody by a Pune sessions court

An accused in the Bhima-Koregaon violence, Milind Ekbote has been sent to 14-days judicial custody by a session court in Pune. 

Milind Ekbote is the president of Samasta Hindi Aghadi, He was arrested last week for his involvement in the Bhima-Koregaon violence which happened on January 1 this year.

He was remanded to police custody till March 21 and was produced today before the court after the expiry of his custody. On March 19, when he was being taken to the court for a hearing in the case, he was attacked by a person who tried to blacken his face but was rather prevented from doing so and later arrested.

On January 1, 2018, a group of Dalits gathered at the Bhima-Koregaon war memorial to mark the two-hundredth anniversary of the war. The war was fought between the British soldiers and Peshwa army in which the latter was defeated. The British army had a significant number of Dalits in their army. A mob pelted stones on the gathered Dalits which led to riots and death of one. 

BBMS leader Prakash Ambedkar alleged Sambhaji Bhide and Milind Ekbote for inciting the violence on January 1. However, they blamed Elgar Parishan in Shaniwar Wada.
