Ranchi: The Hemant Soren government in the state has taken a major step to pacify the agitation of the Jharkhandi Bhasha Sangharsh Samiti. The Jharkhand government has expelled Bhojpuri and Maghi languages from Dhanbad and Bokaro districts. Now, Bhojpuri and Maghi will not be recognised in Dhanbad and Bokaro districts in district-level planning. At the same time, the route of district-level planning in these two cities is going to be closed for the educated youth who are experts in this language.

The same Jharkhand Education Minister Jagarnath Mahato was vocal in his opposition to Bhojpuri and Maghi. There was a continuous movement for more than a month to de-recognise this language from district level planning. In Dhanbad and Bokaro, the Jharkhand government has dropped Maghi and Bhojpuri from the list of regional languages in view of the protests by local people and political activists. In other cities, the regional languages have been kept in the earlier order.

The department of personnel has issued a fresh notification in this regard. Before taking the decision, CM Hemant Soren took congress state president Rajesh Thakur and legislature party leader Alamgir information into confidence and the government took the decision after discussing it with them. The Jharkhand department of personnel, administrative reforms and official languages has issued a notification to exclude Bhojpuri and Maghi from Dhanbad and Bokaro districts. With the new notification being fixed, Bhojpuri as a regional language will be included only in Palamu and Garhwa. Maghi has been kept as a regional language in Latehar, Palamu, Garhwa and Chatra.
