Veteran Mahesh Bhupathi's name has sprung up as a conceivable contender for Davis Cup captaincy, yet ambushed Anand Amritraj has looked for one more term and his destiny will be chosen when AITA Executive Committee talks about changes in bolster staff on Friday.

AITA is quick to supplant Amritraj before the following tie against New Zealand, planned for February 3-5 in Pune, as the national league feels he has neglected to force teach in the group even as the players need him to proceed in the occupation.

Both Amritraj and mentor Zeeshan Ali's terms are up for the audit by the Executive Committee, the individuals from which will have discussions by means of the phone call, while the S P Misra-drove choice board of trustees will meet here tomorrow to pick the group for the Asia/Oceania Group I tie.

Both Amritraj and Zeeshan had joined the side as bolster staff in 2013, supplanting Misra and Nandan Bal separately after a players' revolt, drove by Somdev Devvarman.

"Neither Ramesh Krishnan nor Nandan Bal is in a race to end up skipper as reported before. Mahesh is a conceivable contender for captaincy," an AITA source told PTI.

"Amritraj advised AITA that he needs to lead the side for one more year and his proposition will likewise be talked about at the meeting," the source included.

Bhupathi has played in 35 Davis Cup ties for India and the last time he highlighted in a tie was in 2011 when he contended with Japan in a World Group Play-off tie in Tokyo.

In the meantime, insiders say Somdev, who has not played focused tennis for some time, has indicated enthusiasm for turning into the mentor of the side set up of Zeeshan.

"Yes, Somdev has tossed his cap into the ring for the mentor's position. Presently, the panel will choose if Mahesh and Somdev can be introduced as new bolster staff members," the source said.
