Imphal: Security forces are still in alert mode in the northeastern state of Manipur, which has been burning in the fire of violence for the past several days. Several steps are being taken to prevent any such violent incident again. In this sequence, the security forces are now looking for the weapons that were stolen by the mob during the violence. During the search operation, the security forces have so far recovered 11,763 ammunition, 896 weapons and 200 bombs. Kuldeep Singh, security advisor to the Manipur government, has given information in this regard.
Officials had earlier informed that around 50 lakh ammunition and 3,500 weapons were stolen in riot-hit Manipur, the report said. However, no official figures have been revealed. Amit Shah, who was on a visit to the state, had also requested people to return the weapons, after which the locals started returning the weapons a week ago. Amit Shah was on a four-day visit to Manipur last month.
Since then, 144 weapons have been seized by the security forces since 8 June, while 750 weapons were recovered before Amit Shah's visit. Officials say they are confident of recovering a huge cache of weapons from here. However, the operation may take some time as the conflict between the Kuki and Maitai communities continues.
