Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has suffered a major setback in Punjab. SAD leader Inder Iqbal Singh Atwal joined the BJP on Sunday (April 9). Along with him, Sardar Jasjit Singh Atwal and some other leaders have also joined the BJP. All these leaders took the oath of party membership in the presence of Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri at the BJP headquarters in Delhi.

According to media reports, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri welcomed all these leaders who joined the BJP to the party and said that the BJP is not just a political party but a family that gets strength from its members. At the same time, after joining the BJP, Inder Iqbal Singh Atwal thanked PM Narendra Modi and termed the Kartarpur corridor a historic step.

At the same time, according to BJP sources, AIADMK leader and former Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Maitreyan can also join the BJP on Sunday.
