Bihar: Updates on the Bihar hooch tragedy -  In the last few days, at least 25 people have died and several others have become ill after consuming fake liquor in two districts of Bihar. According to reports, deaths have occurred in the districts of Gopalganj and West Champaran.

Eight people died on Thursday in Telhua village, Bettiah, the headquarters of West Champaran district, after allegedly consuming hooch, while the death toll in another incident of suspected spurious liquor consumption in Gopalganj climbed to 16 on Thursday, with six more deaths confirmed by district authorities.

Janak Ram, a Bihar minister, rushed to Gopalganj and said "I have visited the homes of persons who died allegedly as a result of consuming spurious liquor," he later told before media. It could be part of a plot to discredit the NDA government." Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), confronted Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over the incident, alleging that the state government had failed to take action against those responsible for the deaths. Over 50 people have died in the state as a result of bogus liquor, according to Tejashwi, the younger son of RJD chief Lalu Prasad.
