Patna: Bihar is soon going to receive the gift of a new bridge built on the river Ganga. According to media reports, on Friday, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar will inaugurate a long-pending road bridge on the Ganges connecting Sahebpur Kamal to Munger in Begusarai.

In 2002, the then PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee had laid the foundation of a rail-cum-road bridge in the name of the first Chief Minister of Bihar, Shri Krishna Singh, about 168 km east of the capital Patna. On the other hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 3.75 km long railway portion of the bridge in March 2016. However, the road bridge built in double-deck could not be made operational, as its connectivity parts on both sides were not completed in time.

Let us tell you that people have often depended on risky boat services to cross the river with motorcycles and cycles to go from Sahebpur Kamal to Munger. In such a situation, the public will get a lot of relief from the start of this new bridge. The new bridge constructed at a cost of Rs 1,000 crore will be the seventh road bridge over the Ganga that connects National Highway (NH) 31 at Begusarai to NH 33 at Munger via NH 333 (A). In its absence, people were forced to travel from northern Bihar to Munger, Lakhisarai and Jamui to reach the other side of the river. At the same time, due to its construction, the public will get huge relief.
