Patna: Thousands of farmers marched on foot to the Raj Bhavan in Patna on Tuesday, calling for the repeal of new agricultural laws brought by the central government and to join the agitation on a large scale in many parts of the country. The All India Kisan Sangharsh Samiti and other left organizations joined this march.
Rakesh Tikait, the spokesperson of the Bharatiya Kisan Union, said that the opposition parties are confusing the farmers on the new agricultural laws. He said that if the opposition was strong, what was the need for the farmers to start the movement? Tens of thousands of farmers have been camping on the highways near New Delhi for a month and demanding the withdrawal of new laws. Farmers fear that after this new law the corporate dominance of the agricultural sector will increase and their income will decrease.
However, the central government says the new laws will increase farmers' income, as potential wholesale buyers such as Reliance, Walmart and Adani Enterprises can now directly connect with farmers and isolate wholesale markets and commission agents.
