Patna: The first phase of voting for the Bihar assembly elections has started today. It has started from 7 am. In this phase, voting is going on in 71 seats. Today, many leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, BJP President JP Nadda have also appealed to voters to vote. Talking about the Election Commission data, till 9 am, 6% voting has been done.
Recently, Additional Chief Electoral Officer Sanjay Kumar Singh said, 'The voting is going on in 7 assembly constituencies of Bihar at seven in the morning amidst tight surveillance and strong security system. Today, 2 crores 14 lakh 84 thousand 787 voters will exercise their franchise. Paramilitary forces have been deployed in all polling stations for fair and peaceful voting. 31,380-31,380 EVMs and VVPATs have been arranged for a total of 31,380 polling stations. He further said that out of the 35 assembly constituencies where voting is going on today, 35 are sensitive and some are susceptible. The polling time here is only from seven in the morning to five and four in the evening, but in the rest of the assembly constituencies, voting will be till 6 in the evening.
He further added, 'Out of the 71 assembly seats in the first phase, the largest constituency-wise constituency is Chainpur, voter-wise largest constituency is Hilsa and voter-wise smallest area is Barbigha. In the first phase, the maximum number of candidates (27) are in the fray from Gaya Town Assembly constituency and the least number of candidates (5) from Katoriya.
