Patna: Bill Gates, the co-chairman and trustee of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, met Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday and said there were fewer places in Bihar that have made more progress against poverty and disease. During the meeting with Bill Gates in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, Health Minister Mangal Pandey, Nitish said that we, improve public health services, change public behavior at community level, enhance innovative efforts in areas like health, nutrition and agriculture I am very happy with the participation of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Bihar is keen to continue partnering with the Gates Foundation to further strengthen sustainable systems in departments such as health, social welfare, agriculture, women empowerment and rural development.

Bill Gates has said that in the last 20 years very few places have made more progress against poverty and disease than in Bihar. The probability of an infant born today in Bihar reaching his 5th birthday is more than twice that of two decades ago.

During the meeting, emphasis has also been given on giving priority to structural reforms in the health sector in Bihar.
