GANDHINAGAR: The delegations of the BJP and Congress met with CEC Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioners Anup Chandra Pandey to address matters pertaining to the Gujarat Assembly elections.

On Monday afternoon, the Chief Election Commissioner and Commissioner met with each district collector and each police officer to discuss the situation on the ground.

Parindu Bhagat, the head of the BJP team, said to reporters "The Election Commission has received inquiries from the party regarding 32 issues. The committee has been asked primarily to include election campaign expenses for the prime minister in party election expenses rather than counting them toward candidate expense accounts."

The second proposal is that during election days, neither the police nor the special task team should harass or stop members of the general public in order to examine the movement of cash. Instead, they should check the vehicles of party officials or leaders, not ordinary people, he said.

While Congress has urged that voters be given a tangible copy of the VVPAT slip so they can verify whether the vote was cast for the correct candidate or not, Dipak Babaria, a Congress politician, has suggested using the same slip as a ballot and comparing it to EVM vote tallying.

"Duplicate votes exist in many constituencies; these should be eliminated as soon as possible to prevent any party from abusing those votes," he said.
