Mainpuri: BJP candidate Raghuraj Shakya described Shivpal Yadav as his political guru in the by-election for the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat in UP. Raghuraj Shakya said that he would soon meet Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party chief Shivpal Yadav and seek his blessings. Raghuraj Shakya is considered close to Shivpal Yadav. But before the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh this year, he left the Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party and joined the BJP. Earlier, Raghuraj Shakya was in the Samajwadi Party. But after the formation of the Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party by Shivpal Yadav, he joined them.

Because of this, Raghuraj Shakya also targeted the SP candidate from Mainpuri, Dimple Yadav. Raghuraj Shakya asked, can anyone meet him? You must first apply to meet them, then go through a cordon of security. Raghuraj Shakya said I am the son of a farmer. Anyone can stop me on the street and meet me. I am always present for all. The Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat has fallen vacant after the death of Samajwadi Party patron Mulayam Singh Yadav. Voting on this seat is to be held on December 5. The results will come on 8 December. SP has fielded Dimple Yadav from the Mainpuri seat.

On the other hand, the BJP has fielded Raghuraj Shakya, who came from the Samajwadi Party and then joined the BJP, on this seat. After winning in Azamgarh and Rampur Loksabha, BJP is now eyeing to make a dent in Samajwadi Party's bastion Mainpuri. Raghuraj Singh Shakya started his political journey with Samajwadi Party. In student life, Raghuraj Singh Shakya used to be an activist of Lohia Vahini and used to work for SP. Samajwadi Party and Progressive Samajwadi Party formed an alliance in the year 2022 assembly elections. But Raghuraj Singh Shakya joined BJP when he did not get a ticket from SP in assembly elections. Raghuraj Singh Shakya has also been a Member of Parliament in 1999 and 2004 on a Samajwadi Party ticket. In 2012, on a Samajwadi Party ticket, he was also elected as MLA from the Etawah Sadar seat.
