Patna: BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi has been elected unopposed in the Rajya Sabha seat vacant after the demise of LJP founder Ram Vilas Paswan in Bihar. No party had fielded any candidate against Sushil Modi. Nomination of Shyamandan Prasad, who emerged as an independent candidate, was declared invalid on Friday. In such a situation, Sushil Modi was the only candidate left, which cleared the way for his Upper House election on Monday.

The political mathematics of the Rajya Sabha elections in Bihar was in favor of the NDA. The NDA has the support of 126 MLAs while the Mahagathbandhan is accompanied by 110 MLAs and seven others. This is the reason that LJP chief Chirag Paswan did not accept RJD's proposal. This is why Chirag Paswan didn't make mother his mother candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections, because he knew that even after all the opposition votes were united, his seat could not be removed.

After Assembly, Lok Sabha and then Legislative Council, Sushil Modi will now be a member of the Upper House. Bihar has become the third such leader who has been a member of the four houses. With this, former deputy CM Sushil Modi has become the only leader in the history of Bihar BJP to become a member of the four houses.
