The Delhi police informed a metropolitan court on Friday that they have gathered sufficient evidence to proceed with a trial against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the outgoing chief of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and a member of the BJP, in a case involving alleged sexual harassment of female wrestlers.

During the proceedings before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Harjeet Singh Jaspal, the city police presented their stance that a strong case had been established against Singh and his co-accused, Vinod Tomar, who is also a suspended assistant secretary of WFI.

The public prosecutor, Atul Srivastava, who represented the police, emphasized that the evidence at hand warranted the charging of the accused individuals for the specific offenses outlined in the charge sheet. These include charges under sections 354 (pertaining to assault or criminal force on a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty), 354-A (related to sexual harassment), and 354-D (concerning stalking) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), attributed to Singh.

The court is scheduled to reconvene on August 19, during which the complainants' advocate is expected to present arguments related to the issue of charges. Earlier, on July 20, the metropolitan court had granted bail to both Singh and Tomar, requiring them to furnish a bond of Rs 25,000 each. This bail was subject to specific conditions, including not leaving the country without prior permission from the court and refraining from attempting to influence any witnesses. The charge sheet against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, a six-time Member of Parliament, had been filed by the Delhi police.
