Dehradun: Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami may be leading the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to a thumping majority, but he himself has lost the election from his Khatima assembly seat. Congress candidate Bhuvan Chand Kapri defeated him by nearly 5,000 votes in this seat. Bhuvan Chand Kapri is a young leader of the Congress and is the working president of the party in the state.

Bhuvan Chand Kapri, popular among the youth, has also been the chief of the Uttarakhand Youth Congress. He has also served as general secretary in the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress. Bhuvan Kapri had also given a tough challenge to Pushkar Singh Dhami during the 2017 assembly elections. At that time, Kapri had lost by just 2709 votes. Bhuvan Kapri got 26,830 votes, while Pushkar Singh Dhami got 29,539 votes. Khatima assembly seat falls under Udham Singh Nagar district. Here the farmers' movement had a tremendous impact.

However, after the withdrawal of the farm laws, it was being said that the resentment of the farmers would end. Pushkar Singh Dhami had also won the election from this seat in 2012. He then defeated Congress' Davinder Chand. Dhami's attempt was to score a hat-trick by winning this seat. Talking about the equation of this seat, there is a good number of Muslim and Sikh voters in this seat. The Tharu tribe and the people who migrated from Pithoragarh, Champawat, Lohaghat also live here.
