Indore: The controversial ticket of a councillor who was given to the wife of an old gangster (history-sheeter) who was jailed in Indore, Madhya Pradesh after being detained under the National Security Act (RASUKA) between 2020, was withdrawn by the ruling BJP  within 24 hours on Saturday. A top functionary of the state BJP unit has said that the decision to take the step was taken under the policy of 'zero tolerance' after the "criminal background" of the woman's family was ascertained.

Swati Kashid, wife of local gangster Yuvraj Ustad, was made the candidate for the post of councillor from ward number 56 of Indore in the list announced on Friday. However, after the question was raised on this decision, the BJP withdrew the ticket from him the very next day and announced Gajanand Gawde as its candidate from this unreserved ward.

Kashid's husband has several cases registered against him: Reports say that state BJP president VishnuDutt Sharma has said in a statement that "it has been brought to the notice of the chief minister and the party organisation that Swati Kashid's family has a criminal record. The BJP  leadership followed the policy of 'zero tolerance' in this regard and withdrew the councillor's ticket from him. Police officials said that kashid's husband Yuvraj Kashid has also been booked in Indore district for murder and other heinous charges over the years.
