Manipur, which is gearing up for elections, has been rocked by yet another round of pre-election violence. In what is thought to be a pre-poll violence event, at least two BJP workers in Manipur were allegedly shot dead.

Abujam John and Abujam Tomba, two BJP workers who died, were said to be close to Manipur agriculture minister O Lukhoi. Miscreants shot and killed two BJP activists in Manipur's Imphal West district late on Sunday night in Samurou.

The Manipur agriculture minister is a sitting MLA from the Wangoi Assembly seat, which includes Samurou. While 59-year-old Abujam John died on the scene, Abujam Tomba died in the hospital from his injuries. Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh paid a visit to the victims' families on Monday morning. The case has being investigated by the police.
